Early to mid-1900s
The Mina Zayed port enables local fishing industries
1958
Natural oil is discovered on Das Island, Abu Dhabi, accelerating growth
1971
The UAE is founded, and Abu Dhabi is made the provisional capital
1972
Mina Zayed is inaugurated as Abu Dhabi’s primary port
1976
The Abu Dhabi Authority is established to support economic prosperity
1985
The UAE’s first Free Zone is established, encouraging innovation and attracting foreign business
2003-2007
Abu Dhabi investments diversify, launching Etihad, F1 Yas Marina Circuit, and more
2012
Khalifa Port replaces Mina Zayed as Abu Dhabi’s primary port, opening the warehouses to be repurposed
2015
421 is established in MiZa, Mina Zayed, a developed warehouse space as a gathering place for the local creative community
2021-2023
The UAE hosts global events including The Special Olympics, Expo 2020, and COP28, welcoming the world to experience the region
